Peter
Rappoli has exhibited at Gallery NAGA since 1979. His paintings
made a splash on the Boston art scene in 1983, when they were
selected for Six From Around Town: The Lois Foster Exhibition
of Emerging Boston Artists at the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis
University. In 1995, his work was included in "Inspired
by Nature: A Contemporary View" at the Boston College
Museum of Art.
Rappoli's paintings are characterized by a formal, abstract geometry contrasted
with a richly textured paint handling. He uses symbols - crosses, tears, hearts
- to create a language that speaks most often of dichotomies such as hope versus
despair, love versus anger, peace versus war. The themes are dramatic and sweeping,
a quality often echoed by the vast size of Rappoli's canvases.
