Ed Stitt: Larz and the City
Sept 6 – Oct 6, 2022 at Gallery NAGA
Gallery NAGA is pleased to present a solo exhibition of paintings by Ed Stitt.
Ed Stitt lives close to Larz Anderson Park, a landscaped and wooded 64-acre parkland in Brookline and it has lately become his personal playground. Stitt’s new painting exhibition trumpets the exquisite sweeping slopes, expansive lawns, and magnificent trees that comprise the park. As if this weren’t enough, it also offers expansive views of downtown Boston.
“August is always so hot and humid; we forget that September has mornings like this. I got lucky one of my mornings up at Larz because the mist lasted long enough for me to document it…”
– Ed Stitt
In addition to his on-site painting of landscapes, Ed Stitt also uses light and color to transform commonplace urban environments. Stitt’s paintings of alleys and buildings near his studio, in Boston’s Fenway Studios building, glory in a celebration of architectural detail and the overlapping decline and renewal of city surfaces.
“Much of my life’s work is about painting the beauty I encounter in everyday life, finding the lovely amidst the mundane. I don’t want to go about so distracted by the to-do lists I’m forever obeying and miss the beauty that is out there along the way.”– Ed Stitt
Ed Stitt: Larz and the City will open to the public on Tuesday, September 6, and a public reception will take place on Friday, September 9 from 6 – 8 pm. An artist walk-through is scheduled for September 17 at 2 pm. Gallery NAGA’s hours are Tuesday – Saturday from 10 – 5, with no appointment necessary.
