Workshop: Creating with Plant Colors: Anthotypes and Eco-Prints at Native Plant Trust, Garden in the Woods, Framingham MA
When: Saturday July 19, 1 - 4 PM

Anthotype (Greek word meaning flower print) is an Eco-friendly photo-based process that uses colorful flowers and plant emulsions to create ephemeral images and photograms, using the sun to make slow exposures. Learn how to extract natural color from flowers and other plants that can also be used as ink and liquid paint. See the various stages of the Anthotype in progress, learn about its history and contemporary artists working in this ephemeral alternative photographic process. Somerville artist, photographer, and Massachusetts master gardener Mary Kocol will demo this enchanting light-sensitive process from the Victorian era and dawn of photography. We will also explore a simple method of eco-printing, the Japanese technique of Tataki-zomé.
